Rankmio method

Rankmio feature roles

Also known as: Roles, User roles, Plan tiers

Rankmio uses four feature roles for external users plus an admin role: visitor (ID 1, not logged in, access only to public pages and the free SEO check), basis (ID 2, entry-level plan), pro (ID 3, premium plan), credits (ID 5, a pure credit account with no plan attached) and admin (ID 4, internal operations role, currently Knut only). Roles govern feature access, credit packages and rate limits — one clear role per user, with no multiple assignments.

What sets the roles apart

Changing roles

Users can change their role through upgrades: visitor → basis by registering and purchasing a plan, basis → pro through a plan upgrade. Downgrades happen through a plan change with the existing plan end date. credits is a standalone role without a plan change — anyone who starts there stays there until they actively move to basis or pro.

The admin area is deliberately German only

A note for internal operations: all views in views/admin/ are hardcoded in German — no t() calls are needed. The admin area is operations tooling for internal users (currently Knut only), not a customer touchpoint. External users (roles credits/basis/pro) never see the admin area. i18n here would be over-engineering with no real benefit.

Example from practice

Example: A marketing agency starts out as a pro user for its own projects and creates 3 staff logins via the teams function, which are also set up as pro. Three months later a junior account with restricted access is required — it is created as basis with a reduced feature set. Client projects remain in the pro accounts, while the junior works on preliminary research tasks in the basis account. Clear separation of roles, clear credit budgets per account.

Frequently asked questions

Which Rankmio roles are there?
Five roles: (1) visitor (no login), (2) basis (free tier with 10 free credits), (3) starter (SME standard), (4) pro (advanced features), (5) credits (pure pay-per-use without a subscription). In addition there is the admin role for internal administration.
What is the difference between basis and pro?
Scope and feature access. basis: basic functions, few projects, no team access. pro: all features, more projects, team collaboration, priority support, white-label reports.
Can you change roles?
Yes, you can upgrade at any time. Downgrading is possible, but feature access is reduced immediately. Credits always remain available, regardless of the role.
Do you need a role beyond basis?
It depends on your usage. For solo bloggers and individual projects, basis is usually enough. For agencies with several clients or teams: pro. For pure pay-per-use without a subscription commitment: credits.
