Competitor data pack

Also known as: Competitor pull, Competition pull, Competitor Data Pack

The competitor data pack is Rankmio's bulk pull module for competitive analysis: for each competitor pinned in the project, a single query retrieves the full ranking keyword universe, the top performer pages, the backlink profile and brand entity signals. The data lands in structured form in the competitor section, from where it is used for gap analyses (keyword gaps, backlink gaps, entity gaps). The pull frequency is configurable — usually weekly per competitor, which is sufficient for stable trend data.

Competitor pinning discipline

Important for meaningful competitor evaluations: pin a maximum of 3–5 competitors per project, not 10 or more. The reason is that too many competitors dilute the gap analyses — if a keyword ranks for only 1 out of 10 pinned competitors, it is not a genuine gap but noise. Three to five thematically close competitors are enough for clear, actionable gap lists.

Example from practice

Example: an agency pins 4 direct competitors for a client. After 8 weeks, the weekly competitor data pack pull shows a clear picture: a keyword gap of 240 terms that 3 or more competitors rank for (but the client does not), and a backlink gap of 87 referring domains that link to 2 or more competitors (but not to the client). Those 87 form the outreach priority list. After 5 months of targeted work: 38% of the keyword gaps closed, 22 new backlinks won from the gap list, visibility doubled.

Frequently asked questions

What is the competitor data pack?
The competitor data pack is a Rankmio feature that collects a complete data set for each identified competitor: ranking keywords, content structure, backlinks, technical signals and content frequency. It is the basis for in-depth competitive analysis.
How are competitors identified?
Automatically from SERP data. For tracked keywords, Rankmio analyses the top 20 rankers and determines statistically which domains rank most frequently in your own topics. These are listed as SERP competitors, irrespective of their business model.
What is included in the data pack?
Six data layers: (1) all ranking keywords, (2) top landing pages by traffic value, (3) backlink profile overview, (4) content structure (length, format, frequency), (5) technical signals (speed, schema), (6) traffic trends over time.
How often is the data pack updated?
Monthly per competitor. Ranking data and backlinks are pulled afresh each month. Content snapshots are taken more frequently — immediately when top pages change. Competitor alerts notify you of significant changes.
