Standard brief

Also known as: Standard brief, Default brief, Template brief

Standard briefs are read-only template briefs in the Content Studio that are created automatically for every new Rankmio project. There are currently two per project: Argumentative essay (17 structural elements, dialectically arranged) and Standard specialist article. They cannot be edited or deleted — but they can be cloned with a single click, which produces a fully editable custom brief. This lowers the barrier to entry: setting up a new project does not have to begin with ”build a brief from scratch first”, but can start directly with ”clone the standard brief and adjust it”.

Why read-only?

The read-only property is deliberate: standard briefs serve as a reliable reference template. If they were editable, every user would adapt them for their own purposes, other users would be confused, and the ”standard” would no longer be a standard. Cloning instead of editing is the clean solution: the original remains unchanged, and the clone is adapted.

The argumentative essay template

One of the two default briefs is a dialectical argumentation structure with 17 elements: lead paragraph, thesis, supporting argument 1, supporting argument 2, supporting argument 3, counter-position (steelman), synthesis, sources block, conclusion. Ideal for opinion and position pieces that require argumentative depth without a sledgehammer style. With 17 structured elements, the output is cleanly organised despite being AI-generated.

Cloning instead of editing

The clone button on a standard brief creates a complete custom brief with all elements and instructions. In the custom brief, all fields are editable, a custom element order is possible, and instruction texts can be written from scratch. The classic user path: clone the standard brief → sharpen the instructions → assign a persona library → the brief is immediately ready for productive use.

Example from practice

Example: An agency starts a new project for a client. Immediately available: argumentative essay and standard specialist article as templates. A click on ”clone argumentative essay” → editable custom brief ”Argumentative essay client X v1” → 5 minutes spent adjusting the tone-of-voice notes → productive. For comparison: building a brief from scratch would take 30–60 minutes. Standard briefs remove the initial friction and ensure solid default quality.

Frequently asked questions

What is a standard brief in Rankmio?
A standard brief is a reusable content brief template in the Content Studio. With every new project, two standard briefs are created automatically: ”Specialist article” and ”Argumentative essay”. They form the basis for consistent content production.
How do the two standard briefs differ?
The specialist article is structured in the classic way (definition, sections, FAQs, conclusion). The argumentative essay is dialectical (thesis, antithesis, synthesis, examples). The specialist article suits informational content, the essay suits opinion and strategy content.
Can standard briefs be edited?
They can only be cloned, not edited directly. The standards are read-only so that consistency is guaranteed across all projects. If you need adjustments: clone them and save the adapted version.
Can you create your own briefs?
Yes, without limit. You can create as many of your own briefs per project as you like. Each brief defines: target keywords, H2 skeleton, mandatory elements (tables, lists, FAQs), persona assignment and media configuration.
